An IIT student went missing after drowning in the Ganga canal late Saturday night, while another was rescued by the water police. The police have informed the IIT administration and the student’s family. Meanwhile, the SDRF team conducted a search operation in the Ganga canal, but the missing student could not be found.
According to the police, Ajay Rohitbhai (24), resident of Arasuri Nagar Society, Kathiawadi Patan, Gujarat and Kewal Kumar, resident of Harsh Nagar Society Kalikund Dholka District Ahmedabad Gujarat, are first year MSc students at IIT Roorkee. Both of them went for a walk on the banks of Ganga canal at 8 pm on Saturday.
During this, Kewal’s feet suddenly slipped and he started drowning in the Ganga canal. To save his friend, Ajay jumped into the Ganga canal. Meanwhile, people informed the water police. The water police reached the spot and took Kewal Kumar out safely, while Ajay got lost after getting swept away. Kotwali in-charge RK Saklani said, SDRF team has been deployed to search for the student.
